With 60 days remaining until the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Shenzhen, China, Futian District in the same city hosted the 4th Spark Open-Source Hardware Conference and the Global AI Hardware Innovation Ecosystem Conference.
This global event in China's tech hub—bringing together the global technology and industrial sectors—highlighted the latest advancements in Embodied AI, Edge Computing, and smart terminals.
The global conference took place at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center, guided by the Science, Technology, and Industrial Information Bureau of Futian District and hosted by China's JLC Group.
Across both open-source and closed-source tracks, over 400 projects were presented with more than 2,200 innovators participating worldwide, while live online viewership exceeded 300,000 people.
In the same week, the Greater Bay Area Smart Hardware Innovation Center in Futian was officially inaugurated, providing approximately 5,150 square meters of industrial space to support project launches.
The exhibition covered the hardware supply chain from chips to end devices. For the first time globally, the first fully open-source chip—built on open-source EDA, IP, and PDK—made its physical debut after being successfully taped out in December last year.
The awards ceremony highlighted two major trends: in the open-source track based on the LCSC hardware platform, the "Wheeled-Quadruped Disaster Search and Rescue Robot" project won first prize for its ability to transition between wheeled motion on flat ground and agile locomotion across rugged terrain.
In the closed-source track, where over 90% of entries focused on artificial intelligence, the "Like Clean Instant Dishwasher" project claimed the gold award, while the "PeerSync" device—developed by a 17-year-old team to assist individuals with hearing and speech impairments—received the Outstanding Innovation Award.
The total prize money for the competition reached 1.4 million yuan (approximately $210,000), along with early-stage investment opportunities from venture giants such as Sequoia Capital and Eastern Bell Capital.
In the first half of 2026, the JLC platform processed 11.64 million orders, and the global user base of JLC EDA reached 7.37 million, lowering barriers to micro-innovation. The new Futian center operates with an EMC lab, a rapid prototyping platform, and a safety testing lab, enabling engineers equipped only with a laptop to receive full support from testing to commercial production.
